Planning and Executing Construction and Contracting Projects: Tips for Consumers

Welcome to my blog. My name is Deborah. About 15 years ago, I bought an old home. We worked with several contractors to rehabilitate it, but ultimately, the foundation simply wasn't stable enough, and we had to tear it down. After that, we worked with a construction crew to build a home from the ground up. The experience was exciting and challenging, and I learned a lot through that process. I want to share construction and contracting facts and information with others so I decided to start this blog. I hope that you like the results, and I thank you for reading. Enjoy!

Features to add to your deadbolt lock to make it even more secure

by Samantha Russell

Deadbolt locks are among the safest types of locks there is when it comes to prevent burglary and they can help with increasing the safety in your home significantly. There are many different features that a deadbolt lock can have to further improve how well it protects against intrusion, and in order for you to get exactly what you want out of your deadbolt lock, there are some features you should consider getting for your lock.

Key control

One very helpful feature that many locksmiths offer with the deadbolt locks they're selling is key control. This means that nobody can make a copy of your key without your permission. The lock is put on a list where all keys that belong to it get registered. This means that if you have a break in where the burglar has used a key, you will have a register over all people that have your key.

Anti drill

You could also get a lock with anti drill features. This means that there are bits of ceramic or steel embedded in the wood surrounding the lock, which makes it very difficult to break the lock by drilling and might also ruin the drill. This feature requires that you have a thick door to fit all the metal bits that needs to be put in the material around the lock. If your door is made out of wood, and there's not much space surrounding the lock as it is, this feature might just end up weakening the door.

Warranty

You could also choose a deadbolt lock with a burglary warranty. This means that a 24 hr locksmith will come to your house as soon as you discover that the lock has been broken to immediately replace the deadbolt lock. This service is often provided by a mobile locksmith even if the lock isn't broken from the attempted burglary, but just a bit beaten up.

Double cylinder

Double cylinder deadbolt locks are another popular feature, especially for people with glass doors or doors with windows. This type of deadbolt lock requires the door to be opened with a key also from the inside, which means a burglar can't simply break the glass to reach the lock and open it. It is, however, a feature you should take under careful consideration, as these types of deadbolt locks makes it more difficult to get out of the house in a hurry. It could therefore be dangerous if a fire were to break out in your house and you need to get out of there as quick as possible.
